Modern Limavady town is a thriving centre with a population of around
13,000. A busy shopping and market centre for the district, it is also
home to many industries and is an ideal base from which to explore the
spectacular Causeway Coast area. The town still holds firmly to
its long history. Many of the buildings and entrance arches show how the
town would have looked in Georgian times and the weekly cattle
market each Monday has been taking place since the 17th century.
The site of the old town and O'Cahan's castle can be visited
in the nearby Roe Valley Country Park and numerous other sites of historic
interest are only a short drive away. Some of these are described in the
Tourism Section.
